Our Periodontal Services

Laser Surgery

Laser gum surgery is a minimally invasive technique used to kill bacteria within the pockets of the gums, without destroying healthy tissue nearby. Dr. Carreiro is skilled in performing laser procedures for those with mild to severe gum disease. Patients experiencing laser gum surgery in Largo, FL enjoy less downtime, less pain and less time in the dental chair. This treatment may also help save teeth affected by the disease, by regenerating the bone.

Osseous Surgery

Osseous surgery can be performed to improve gum health, for those with moderate to severe periodontal disease. This procedure involves lifting portions of the gum to get direct access to plaque and bacteria living within the gum pockets. The pockets and teeth are cleaned and the supporting bones are smoothed to ensure proper healing. The gum tissue is then trimmed and repositioned and stiched back into place.

Scaling and Root Planing

For early stages of periodontal disease in Largo, FL scaling and root planing may be used to prevent further damage to the gums. During this procedure, plaque and tartar buildup that is trapped beneath the gums are cleaned using special instruments. Further treatment may not be necessary if proper care is taken following the procedure.

Periodontal maintenance

Regular periodontal maintenance is recommended every three to six months to ensure the overall health of your teeth and gums. Periodontal maintenance thoroughly removes tartar and plaque buildup, and can improve symptoms of bad breath.
